Lite nyheter

Tyvärr är världen inte galen, den är bara normal. Här kommer några intressanta nyheter på det temat från The LRC Blog:
Employer told not to post advert for 'reliable' workers because it discriminates against 'unreliable' applicants

When it comes to hiring staff, there are plenty of legal pitfalls employers need to watch out for these days.

So recruitment agency boss Nicole Mamo was especially careful to ensure her advert for hospital workers did not offend on grounds of race, age or sexual orientation.

However, she hadn't reckoned on discriminating against a wholly different section of the community - the completely useless.

1/3rd of Women in US Military Raped

"In 2003, a survey of female veterans found that 30 percent said they were raped in the military. A 2004 study of veterans who were seeking help for post-traumatic stress disorder found that 71 percent of the women said they were sexually assaulted or raped while serving. And a 1995 study of female veterans of the Gulf and earlier wars, found that 90 percent had been sexually harassed.”

An online discussion from a former soldier whose identity is being protected had this to say, “At least a rape ends. It’s the day-to-day degradation that eats at you. None of my friends who were raped on active duty reported it. Or if we tried, we were told to shut up for ‘morale.’ Working with your rapist on a daily basis isn’t a lot of fun, believe me.”

Of COURSE We Beat Him: He Tried To Get Away

When 18-year- old Pittsburgh resident Jordan Miles was surrounded by three disreputable-looking men on the way to his grandmother’s house, he did the entirely sensible thing: He fled, thinking that the marauders were criminals.

Unfortunately for Miles, his assailants weren’t common criminals, but rather the state-employed variety — undercover police officers. Street criminals would likely have left him alone. The police not only severely beat him but — in keeping with standard procedure — accused him of several supposed crimes, including “loitering,” “resisting arrest,” and “aggravated assault” (presumably by staining the fists of his assailants with his blood).

Möjligtvis inte en nyhet utan bara ännu ett exempel på poliser som misshandlar oskyldiga i USA. Liknande händelser har inträffat i Sverige, men det verkar vara mindre vanligt.

But if You Did This to a TSA Thug…

22-year old airline passenger Rebecca Solomon is not laughing. It seems that a Terrorist Scam Authority screener showed Rebecca a plastic bag with white powder that he pulled from her carry-on luggage—obviously scaring the hell out of her because she knew it wasn’t hers. It turns out that he was only joking with her (which he was magnanimous enough to inform her of almost immediately after he scared her).

But if you did this to a TSA thug…

U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed With Secret 'Jesus' Bible Codes

Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the U.S. military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.

En äldre blogpost tar i samband med detta upp en nyhet från 2006:

Israeli children sign bombs destined for Lebanon

The saddest of all the images that have appeared on TV recently showing the horror of war were not the scenes of dead children, but the happy faces of the little Israeli children writing pleasant greetings and birthday wishes on big bombs meant for Lebanon and signing their names to them.
